Not long now until the nationwide reading competition, Read for My School, begins. This is taking place from the 21st January until the 22nd March 2013 and will include 90 well-known, not to mention well-loved, titles for children. The event is targeted at those children in years 5 and 6 in Primary Schools with the focus being to promote reading for pleasure. This fits in with Philip Pullman stating, in December, that children should be allowed to enjoy stories rather than over-analysing them for exams. This means that the storyline is soon forgotten and children do not actually like the books they are being taught about.

This project will also result in schools receiving 100,000 free books donated by the Pearson Foundation. The list of books is split into eight categories with a ”Laugh out Loud” section as well as other sections that might be perceived as more educations such as ”Historical Hits”. Old favourite authors, like Roald Dahl, have been included as well as classic titles featuring in the list such as Black Beauty.
