We believe that this list summarises the characteristics that a good tutor should posses. This is so tutees are not left looking like the person in this photograph!!
The first three points are a must. The points that then follow are traits that will separate the good tutors from the ones that are less able. We believe that, in order for a tutee to be inspired to learn and also improve their understanding, tutors must fit in with all of the below…
Every tutor should…
1. Be knowledgeable in their area of teaching
2. Know the syllabus of the taught course
3. Have good communication skills
4. Be able to start teaching their student at the student’s exact point of understanding and knowledge
5. Adapt to the pupils’ learning style
6. Know good studying and revision techniques
7. Be patient and approachable
8. Provide accurate and valuable feedback
9. Be enthusiastic!
