The best Museums are inspiring, exciting and informative, filled with interactive exhibits and awe-inspiring collections. Britain has some of the best museums in the world, which are great places to learn something new or expand your horizons, at any stage in life!

On Wednesday, 9^th July, 2014, the Art Fund will announce the winner of the coveted Museum of the Year Award, awarding £100,000 to the winner. The winner must demonstrate excellence, innovation and inspiration, as well as delivering an original education and outreach programme. A key element to be met is that the museum has made its collections interactive, creating an engaging public understanding of their exhibits. This year, six museums have been shortlisted. These are:

• The Mary Rose Museum, Portsmouth.
• Tate Britain, London.
• The Ditchling Museum of Art and Craft, East Sussex.
• The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Bretton Hall.
• The Hayward Gallery, London.
• The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, Norwich.

These represent a diverse range of exhibits and collections, all of which are presented beautifully, interactively and inspirationally. Whether it’s discovering the personal items of sailors on board the Mary Rose when it sank in 1545, or experiencing one of the up-to-date and innovative touring exhibitions, such as the impressive Light Show, at The Hayward Gallery, each of these museums offers something for everyone. The Ditchling Museum highlights the history of craftsmanship and artisan skills of the area, famous in the 20^th Century, whilst also offering artistic and creative programmes for people of all ages. Or why not explore some of Anthony Gormley’s work, or the momentous new work ‘Seizure’ by Robert Hiorns, in the beautiful grounds of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Regardless of interests, age or location, Britain’s museums are excellent spaces of learning and enjoyment.
