The 13th September is Roald Dahl Day, a day dedicated to one of the world’s greatest storytellers! Celebrated every year on the anniversary of his birthday, it is a time to honour and enjoy the much-loved tales and characters from his books. Whether it’s George and his magnificent medicine, Matilda with her mystifying intellect or Charlie with his golden ticket, everyone has their own favourite Roald Dahl story.
Clever, witty and cunning, it is hard to not be a fan of the fantastic and creative works of Dahl and there are many ways to celebrate on this exciting day; read one of his books or watch one of his spectacular creations on film with friends, you can even take a visit to the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre in Buckinghamshire. You can also turn the day into a way of raising some money for Roald Dahl’s Marvelous Children’s Charity by hosting a dress-up party or getting family and friends to pledge some money for each book your kids read.
“Gobblefunking” with words, Dahl is known for his truly heart-warming fantasy fiction tales, with magical story lines and even more enchanting characters. So, we have put together a collection of the most delightful and bewitching quotes from his stories:
“Never grow up…always down” – George’s Marvellous Medicine
“ You should never, never doubt something that no one is sure of” – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
“It is most unlikely. But – here comes the big ‘but’ – not impossible” – The Witches
“A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men” – Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator
“Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it” – The Minipins
“If you are going to get anywhere in life you have to read a lot of books” – Matilda
“Most of the really exciting things we do in our lives scare us to death. They wouldn’t be exciting if they didn’t” – Danny the Champion of the World
“A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely” – The Twits
