What is the ISEB Common Pre-Test?

Most of the schools on this list require potential candidates to sit the ISEB Common Pre-Test when they are in year 6 (aged 11). It is a standardised, age-adaptive measure of ability and attainment. It takes the form of multiple-choice questions in Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, English, and Maths. It takes roughly two and a half hours to complete, and the different sections can be taken together or at separate times. The test is usually taken at the prep school of the candidate but can also be taken at the senior school to which the candidate is applying if necessary. The test can only be taken once in a year and a candidate’s mark can be sent to multiple senior schools if necessary.
