How to Balance Sport with your Studies
June 26, 2017
As you go through school life, there will come a point where you don’t think you will be able to cope with keeping up a good standard of work and doing extra-curricular activities.
However, activities such as sport not only look great on your C.V. and university applications, it help keep you happy and healthy. Here are a few tips to help you balance your time:
- Prioritise: What is more important, school or sport? For most people, the chance of making a living out of playing sports is very slim so make sure you prioritise your work before sports. It is important to do different activities but make sure you say on top of work so you don’t get behind.
- Plan: Get an organiser and make a schedule. If you play organised sports you always know when this will be so make sure you can fit in a good amount of work around those times.
- Get a planner. Most schools will give these out at the beginning of the year but if not is worth making the trip to a stationary shop. In this write down every piece of work you are set so you know what you need to do by when.
- Work out your weekend: It can be tempting to have a lazy Saturday afternoon but using this time to get all your work done can be invaluable later in the week.
- Don’t waste your time in school: If you have an hour break from class for private study, then this is a perfect time to get some work done. Go to the library and do as much as you can in that time. This means less homework will be needed to done that evening.
- You can always cut down a little: most coaches will understand that you need time to do some work so missing the odd practise to catch up on some work should be fine. Do not get too stressed about these things. It will only make it harder to work and the sporting side less enjoyable.
- Enjoy yourself: Don’t sign yourself up for a sport you don’t like doing. It should be part of your life that relaxes you and keeps you entertained. If this is not the case, it may be time to find a new sport.
Exercise is so good for you and often helps you work more efficiently so don’t cut it out completely, just try and arrange your time so you can do the amount that suits you. Let us know at Kings Tutors how you get on.
