US President Barack Obama featured on survival skills reality TV show “Running Wild with Bear Grylls”
– “This is a perfect opportunity to get back to nature in a way that I haven’t done in many years”, said Oscar nominee Kate Hudson in the season premiere of Running Wild with Bear Grylls.
Recently on the news, US president Barack Obama joins the British adventurer, Bear Grylls on his new episode of ‘Running Wild with Bear Grylls’. The TV series has featured many Hollywood stars, including Kate Hudson, Zac Efron, Kate Winslet, Channing Tatum and many others, where Bear Grylls take these celebrities off the red carpet into the wilds.
Many of you have probably seen at least one episode of his show, whether it is Man v.s Wild, or his more recent show The Island with Bear Grylls. The survivalist pushes the contestants beyond their comfort zone to experience adventures they’ve never experienced before. The challenges include overcoming their fear of heights, chopping wood with their bare hands, or even better, eating mouth with the broth of their own urine, of which Bear was told that he was going to make Michelle Rodriguez vegan again.
Ever since the season premiere in 2014, the show has had much attention from the American Public. “We like survival-type shows, whether it’s Batman fighting a villain or Bear fighting nature,” says Marc Berman, editor-in-chief of the TV Media Insights website and a member of the American Television Critics Association.
The show has once again caught the media’s attention. To be aired this autumn, President Obama joins Bear on a 48-hour adventure in Alaska. The trek was part of his three-day tour to address the issue of climate change in the area. The trip shows his support for the new legislation that aims to cap carbon dioxide emissions from power plants in the US. ‘This is worth preserving”, said Obama in overlooking the stunning views in Dillingdon, Alaska, “climate change isn’t just affecting spectacular views like this, when you have warming taking place twice as fast turn Alaska as it is, and the bottom 48 states, that is melting glaciers and blocks of ice that are raising sea levels, and you start getting accelerated rate of climate change overall. We’ve got to do something about this”.
On the show, Obama told the public, “I’ve seen some of the stuff Bear eats, and it’s gotta be something that doesn’t still have its legs and eyes on it. I want it not to be too recognisable”. Even though Obama didn’t have to eat worms or mouse on the show, Bear presented him with a piece of raw, half-eaten salmon for lunch. “The president looked a little surprise when I pulled out this half-eaten salmon”, Grylls commented. The meat was left behind by a real bear after it ate the fattiest part of the fish – the eggs, the skin and the brain, Grylls explained to Obama. This was followed by the response “Now, the fact that he told me this was a leftover fish from a bear, I don’t know if that was necessary. He could have just left that out.” After the fish was cooked, Obama said the salmon was “tasty” and that “it would have been nice if we had a cracker to go with it”
Overall the experience wasn’t as bad as he had expected.
For all those Bear Grylls fan as well the general public, this must be an episode that is worth watching. After all, it isn’t everyday you see President Obama out of the White House trekking in the highlands.
