Picture Books:

  1. Robin’s Winter Song, by Suzanne Barton.

Winter is coming and the robin is worried. This beautifully illustrated picture book is the heart warming story of Robin’s first winter.

2. The Snowman, by Raymond Briggs

Best known as a musical animation with Aled Jones, this enchanting tale follows a young boy on a magical adventure with a snowman he has built. A classic.

Under 12s 

  1. Refuge, by Anne Booth & Sam Usher

£5 goes to charity War Child.

The christmas story retold. Joseph and Mary are refugees escaping King Herod. Follow them on their journey as they experience ‘the kindness of strangers’ in this touching story of hope.

2. The polar express, by Chris Van Allsburg

Awoken by the sound of the train, a young boy discovers the Polar Express bound for the North Pole. Discover the pure magic of the Polar Express and the spirit of christmas.  

3. A Child’s Christmas in Wales, by Dylan Thomas

Expand your child’s vocabulary with this charming account of Dylan Thomas’s own childhood experiences in Wales. A great read that you can’t help but read with a smile.

4. The Usborne Illustrated Ghost Stories

Tis the Season to be…scary? We don’t know what it is, but something about this time of year feels just right for a spooky story. If your kids aren’t quite old enough for M.R. James, why not cuddle up around the fire and share one of these spooky tales for younger children?

5. The Christmas Eve Tree, by Delia Huddy

A truly magical story, great for teaching children there is more than presents. An ugly and unwanted fir tree is rescued from the corner of a shop by a young homeless boy. He takes the tree and decorates it, giving the tree the best festive season it will never forget.

Are you after a classic curmudgeon but not quite old enough for Charles Dicken’s ‘A Christmas Carol’? Look no further! The Grinch is a beautifully grumpy character who will make you grateful it’s only brussell sprouts you have to worry about this Christmas.
